Oh, my dear friend. I'm returning to this conversation with a fresh gratitude for you. Your generous curiosity, your abundant presence, your rare ability to really witness the person you're sitting with. You are a wonder! And you are clearly creating such a thoughtful community here. I am so hungry for this kind of slow and intentional reflection together. THANK YOU for inviting me into this space with you💛✨
I just described you to someone as having infectious effervescence and I think that pretty much sums it all up. I sure wish we were neighbors. There would be 24/7 curious meanders, on both inner and outer landscapes!
Well, this was wonderful. I love these interviews. And I love when they introduce me to somebody new, somebody whose work, whose writing I can’t wait to check out.
Let me tell you when I first really teared up during this conversation. When you, Rebekah, talked about how proud you were of your body’s decision to send up red flags and tell you you needed to make a change. And a whole lot of welling up happened after that.
And I wholeheartedly agree. Kimberly’s gift of seeing people is wondrous.
Thank you for sharing this, Holly. It's pretty astounding and healing to have someone else witness and validate that experience, even all these years later. And three cheers for Kimberly's gift of seeing us so fully!💓
I was so excited to share this interview for that very reason Holly. I knew a lot of my Substack family hasn’t yet discovered Rebekah and we’re going to swoon as soon as they dive in. Her words are so very intimate, fresh, and deeply moving. Thank you for being here with us. ❤️
Like Nathan mentioned, I'm partway through listening and keep wanting to join the conversation... 😆 so many precious threads in there, so many invitations to go deeper... The calendar ~ brilliant! the juggling with all the different layers of life, the recognition that pushing the creative edges and trusting that this has the greatest value!! (rather than trying to flatten ourselves into some branding mould...
I'll be back for more. For now a big THANK YOU to you both for this conversation 💗🙏 and I'm deeply honoured to be mentioned among the words for the wordless 🎶 ♪ ♬ 💕
I feel deeply moved by listening to your story, especially sharing your experiences of relationships and feeling 'unworthy' of choosing a partner on your own terms. It reminded me so much of myself, and made me realise (not for the first time) that 'disability' is something that can affect us in so many different ways, and many of those 'unrecognised disabilities' are completely invisible (until the shit hits the fan).
Your sharing your story is such an inspiration. Your resilience, your way of navigating life, your writing, your mothering. You are the inspiration!! I look forward to reading more of your work too. xx
Oh no! And I saw you commented again upon finishing but it just disappeared! Arg. I think I maybe accidentally deleted it while deleting my own. I’m so sorry Veronika!
Halfway through listening but popping into the comments now to say that this is a beautiful, beautiful listen. I'm listening whilst cooking (an unnecessary detail for me to add 😆) and it's a real joy to hear your insights and thoughts as I engage in the meditate act of peeling potatoes and chopping carrots. Rebekah, you have boundless enthusiasm and joy. Thank you.
I'm in awe of the calendar idea. Wow that's great. I'd love to try that.
Kimberly, grateful to you for another wonderful interview (and your effortless ability) and expanding the connections we can have through this platform.🙏
Yay, Nathan! Three cheers for listening while peeling potatoes! That's one of my favorite ways to listen to conversations, too. Thank you for witnesses this exchange with such care -- it's a gift💛
Hope your meal was tasty Nathan! I love listening to good interviews while chopping veggies. Seems the insights go in more deeply, almost as if I’m whetting my palette for the main meal. Rebekah is a one-of-a-kind human and her writing is remarkable. Truly. I’m thrilled she’s now on your radar.
Finished listening to this. So so so good. I will be seeking out some of Rebekah's writing.
And yeah, I really enjoy cooking and listening to a podcast of documentary. It's one of those activities where my brain can easily split and do the manual task (and be quite content in that process) whilst the rest of the brain can engage with whatever is being spoken.
Just finished watching this interview, thank you Kimberly and Rebekah. I loved it and felt like I was the quiet, absorbing one sitting with you both at the kitchen table, having a cuppa. I've subscribed to you now, Rebekah, and am keen to read your work. Even in the interview, I loved your descriptions of loading the shopping in the car fast enough that people won't offer to help, and the pace of your school pick up. Even these gave me fascinating glimpses into your world, which I loved. So please do keep writing about and sharing your seeds of truth...about whatever aspects of your life you want to write about!
Ahh, thank you, Harriet. It means so much to know how these descriptions landed with you. What an honor that you would share your time and attention with my words💛
Such a generous comment Harriet. I agree, Rebekah's words have a way of pulling me into the immediacy of the moment, and then tug and tug and tug on my heart until I feel like I'm right in the center of her experience. I'm so glad you've subscribed to Rebekah, I highly recommend going back and reading some of her earlier essays (or listening to her read them is also pretty special.) You will not be disappointed!
Loving this interview. And so enjoying all the questions you, Kimberly, hold to draw Rebekah out. I distinctly recall her essay on how different her picking up Otto from school was from the other parents, and if I remember correctly, I told her that SHE is the one doing parenting right, that Otto will remember these times and their discoveries with joy- where all his other classmates will only carry the blur of a hurried life. 💞 thank you both for this deeply moving hour.
Sitting Rebekah is a fabulous title for her next book!
Yay, Teyani! I definitely remember that comment you left on my essay💛 And how fun to find you over in this corner of the internet, too! Thank you both for the gentle little sparkle prod to start thinking about this next book of mine, ha🥳
Haha! I’m glad you agree. I want to read that book. And yes, that essay so clearly illustrated the beauty and intentionality of Rebekah’s parenting. Made me wish I had had a mom who let me wander and explore the terrain between school yard and car!
So insightful, defined at the start by these words: "Like a sensory, visual, like the sounds, something to capture a sensory moment from that day, and I think of that both in terms of a record like I want to have that record but I also think of it as a way of priming my mind to be present and pay attention to where my body is and what my body is receiving and what my body is telling me through its goosebumps or its lump the lump in my throat or whatever that thing is."
hope that I can listen to this one soon. I actually got to meet her!!! When I listened to her book I started talking to my iPad because I felt like I was in her class because she is the one who is reading it!

Kimberly! You are so generous to me🥹💓
Nah, just honest!
😆😘
Thanks for sharing your conversation. I left the world while I read this.
Isn’t that a wonderful feeling? I love losing all sense of space and time. Rebekah’s essays do this to me. Thank you for sharing your experience!
“What do those labels really say about us” — ohh how I loved that!
Such a fantastic interview. I’m so thankful to have been enlightened to Rebekah’s work, and her light, through this interview.
Thank you both. :)
Yeh, labels schmabels, right? They can certainly help us find community, treatment, solidarity, but they can also be so very confining.
A double edged sword, indeed. :)

I can understand why! Rebekah has such a warm, intimate written and spoken voice.
